The History of Lafayette Plaza Park

Charles Loring designed and developed this beautiful 200-acre parcel in 1920 as a tribute to his daughter’s memory after she died from pneumonia. He envisioned it as “a garden city that would combine natural beauty with environmental responsibility." It officially opened in 1929 when he donated approximately $500,000 worth (equivalent today to $11.65 million) of land, plants and trees to the city for public use.
