California Distinguished School 2019

The Distinguished Schools program, which is part of the California School Recognition Program, was put on hold for three years as the state moved to a current evaluation and accountability scheme. The California Gold Ribbon Schools Program honored schools that displayed outstanding achievement from 2015 to 2017. Last year, the Distinguished Schools program was revived. It acknowledges elementary, middle, and high schools every two years and requires qualifying schools to apply only once every two years. The title of award is given to schools for a period of two years.

The California School Dashboard determined which schools were qualified based on their results and success on state metrics. Test scores, suspension rates, and graduation rates are examples of indicators. Schools could also qualify for a California Exemplary Program Award in Arts Education, Physical Activity and Nutrition Education, or Career Technical Education—the winners of which will be named later.

The recipients of the Distinguished School award demonstrate not only outstanding teaching, learning, and teamwork, but also highly effective school environment initiatives ranging from real-time dispute mediation to constructive behavior management.
